this is the second documentary by director wang bing. the film mainly records the long and tragic experiences of an individual from the late 1940s to the 1990s through the narratives of the protagonist and feng ming. the founding of new china in 1949, 17-year-old he fengming actively devoted himself to the socialist construction of new china. she and her husband worked as a journalist in a daily newspaper in a certain province. in 1957, the communist party of china launched an anti-rightist struggle movement. her husband was labeled as a rightist after publishing three articles in a provincial daily. she was also labeled as a rightist when she was implicated by her husband. during the months of criticism and confrontation, she could not stand the torture of others and committed suicide several times. when she returned home in the evening, her husband hugged her, tears fell on her shoulders for the first time. that night the flowers of love bloomed in the hearts of the two of them who were persecuted and lived harder than death. in april 1958, he fengming and her husband were forced to send labor reform ideas to two labor camp farms in western china. during her two and a half years on the farm, she experienced overload of physical labor, hunger, death and personality destruction. in 1960, she received a letter from her father and learned that her husband's life was in danger. she tried every means to find some food and rushed to the farm where her husband worked in the heavy snow. however, her husband had been starved to death. stills from the documentary "he fengming" in the next 20 years, he fengming wore a rightist hat and lived a life of slutty with his two young children until he was rehabilitated in 1979. in 1991, she returned to the labor camp farm where her husband died, hoping to find her husband's grave, but in the end she was not found. in his later years, he fengming was not afraid of the pressure around him and recorded his painful life with his pen and tears. the film was held in yamagata international documentary film festival in yamagata city, japan in 2007 and won the international competition unit award. ccc
