xiaolian (played by xu huaiyu) is a carp spirit living in the pond of the eldest lady peony (played by sun li). in his spare time, xiaolian, who is greedy for fun, always likes to transform into a peony and come to the world to travel around the mountains and rivers. in an accident, xiaolian was rescued by scholar zhang ziyou (played by guo jinan) and thus formed an indissoluble bond. in fact, zhang ziyou and mudan had already decided to live for the rest of their lives, but mudan's father betrothed her to the general's son without authorization. the sad mudan was unable to resist. although xiaolian tried to help mudan block it, it was useless. in the end, mudan sat in the sedan sedan where she was sending her bride.
